Jennifer had just finished a full renovation on a four-bedroom home in Somerville, a few minutes from the Green Line, and was getting it ready for its first guests. With a new listing, the photos have to do all the work. There are no reviews yet, so the gallery is what a family or group planning a Boston trip uses to decide.

Everything in the house is new: wide-plank oak floors, a kitchen with a walnut island, brass pendants, and a full set of stainless appliances. Each bedroom has its own color palette (rust, sage, and warm neutrals), and the bathrooms all have detail worth photographing. One has a checkerboard floor and a brass rain shower, another has a scalloped tile surround and a sage vanity. The house was already staged when I got there. My job was to keep that design intact and make every room easy to read.

It was a sunny day, and the house has windows on almost every wall, so I let the natural light do most of the work. I used flash only where a room needed a little lift, to open up shadows or balance a bright window, and kept everything else true to how the house actually feels in daylight. The whole shoot took about two and a half hours.

The main floor is open from the kitchen through the dining area to the living room, and that was where I spent the most time. I wanted guests to see right away that nine people could cook, eat, and hang out here without stepping on each other. So I shot wide compositions that tie the kitchen island, the dining table, and the L-shaped sofa together, then shot tighter frames to show how each area works on its own.

Upstairs, I shot each bedroom as its own room with its own mood: the bed, the nightstands, the window light. In the bathrooms I kept it simple and shot tight on the tile and brass, because that is what guests remember. To finish, I photographed the front porch, the street approach, and the driveway, since off-street parking in Somerville is something guests actually search for.

I also photographed the practical details families care about: the laundry, the high chair at the kitchen island, and the pack-and-play set up in the living room. These shots don't win awards, but they answer a guest's questions before they have to ask.

Why group-friendly Boston listings need full coverage

Families and groups visiting Boston book differently from couples. They want to know where everyone will sleep, whether the kitchen can handle real meals, and how they will get into the city. A gallery that covers each bedroom, every bathroom, the shared spaces, and the parking answers those questions up front. That means fewer messages to the host, more confident bookings, and a listing that can hold its nightly rate.

I photograph short-term rental properties across Somerville, Boston, and Massachusetts. If you are launching a new listing or refreshing an existing one, let's talk.
