The shoot

By the time I shot this project, Lumen wasn't new to me. It was my third stay. I already knew the light, the pace of the property and the way the pond catches the afternoon sun. When they asked me to create their photo and video content, it felt less like a job and more like an excuse to go back.

Lumen has four ways to stay: two Nordic cabins, luxury safari tents and A-frame tents, spread across water, meadow and forest. Add two private saunas, a bathhouse, and the kind of quiet that makes you realize how loud your regular life is.

My wife came along and stepped in front of the camera for most of the lifestyle work. Shooting someone you know, in a place you both love, reads differently than a staged scene.

One evening we got a sunset that stopped everything. We put the shot list down and just shot it.

I covered all four accommodations, the grounds, the saunas and the pond, including a paddleboard they hadn't launched yet. The five reels were shot on a gimbal and edited to music, with no talking.

Lumen has since been named Best Glamping in New England by Boston Magazine and featured in the Boston Globe and NH Magazine.

If you run a hotel, retreat or rental in New England, let's talk.
